Infection?

Hi all. I have been a bad blogger. I haven't posted anything for weeks now. School has started for my kids and with that comes all the business of planning, driving and studying. My last post I think I mentioned that my left side was somewhat swollen. Well, within the last couple of days it has really swelled up. It is starting to hurt and look funny. I called my OS and he put me on antibiotics and wants to see me next Wednesday. I wonder if he's going to say we need to remove the screws. I guess I will find out. What's funny is that my lips close better now with the "infection". Weird. I don't think things are quite right yet.

Here are some pictures. It probably is hard to see the swelling, but it's on the left side of the picture. It is reversed, so it looks like my right side.

  1. June, I hope you're feeling ok, I can't really see the swelling in the pictures. You still look great. Had he talked about removing screws before? It seems like some people have it done and others don't. take care, Louise

  2. Hi Louise. How are you? Are you getting close to surgery?

I know it's hard to see the swelling in the picture. I actually feel pretty good it's just sore where it's swollen. I will see the OS on Wednesday and I have a feeling he will mention taking the screws out. That's actually ok with me. It would be nice to get them out. I kind of dread another surgery, but at least this one won't be as bad as the first one :-). Take care and good to hear from you. June

  3. Hi June!
Bummer to hear the news, I hope you get relief soon! Keep us posted on what the OS say on Wednesday. My sister had this surgery done and got a sinus infections, but she is a smoker and that probably had something to do with it. I am very curious on how your OS will treat you.
I hope you feel better soon!
    Regards,
    Brent

  4. Yes, keep us updated. Have you had a fever and is it hot??? If it's not an infection I'm wondering about a hemotoma? My OS said he wants to keep a bandage type thing around my head for about a week to keep from getting hemotomas in that area. If that's the case they may just wait for it to "deflate". Very curious on what they'll do. Never heard of removing the screws. Is that pretty common? I'm kinda getting freaked now! lol! :) Hang in there. I'll be prayin' girl!

  5. It's so nice to have people like you guys supporting me. Oh, and especially appreciate the prayers.

I haven't had a fever, but it did come up rather suddenly. That side has always been bigger than the other, but it got way bigger suddenly. I'm curious to see what the OS says too. Don't freak out Elishia. It's not too bad really and I would still recommend the surgery. It's still all worth it. I've heard of a few people getting the screws removed. You don't have to go through the 6-8 weeks of a liquid diet. Whew!

  6. Hi June, I'm glad the swelling isn't too bad. I'm curious to see what your OS says too. I probably will have my surgery next summer, my teeth were awfully crooked, and still need to move a lot. Mostly sideways on the bottom. My midline on the bottom is almost a whole tooth off. They are moving pretty slowly now, but they are much straighter. I feel like it will be forever, but I knew this when I started. Louise

  7. Hi June, how are you? Was your doctor able to figure out why you are swelling?
